Lake Las Vegas
In the Mid 1980s, President and Chairman of Transcontinental Properties, Inc, Ronald Boeddeker, was looking down upon the Nevada desert and envisioned a Mediterranean resort destination that showcased mountain, homes, golf courses, hotels, gaming, boutiques and restaurants. In the middle of all this he envisioned a body of cool water. That vision has become a reality, despite the challenge of building a dam in the middles of the desert. The dam was successfully completed in May of 1991 and was a engineering feat.
Construction was started on Lake Las Vegas' dam and a two-mile bypass system in September of 1988.The bypass system is made up of two pipes that are each 84 inches in diameter and two miles in length. It was engineered to convey the flow of the Las Vegas Wash under Lake Las Vegas and into Lake Mead. The 18 story dam took more than 2 years to build and is approximately 150 feet high and contains nearly 4.1 million cubic yards of earth. Development was completed on the Lake in 1994.
Lake Las Vegas is not just a recreational amenity to Lake Las Vegas Resort, it also provides about 10,000 acre-feet of water storage for the resort's landscape and golf course irrigation requirements.
